ABOUT THIS TRAINING SESSION
Register for this interactive and energizing 14-hour learning experience, approved by the Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution, and earn the “domestic violence trained” designation, obtain the domestic and family violence training required by Alabama Code Section 6-6-20(f)(2), and secure 14 hours of attorney CLE credit.
REGISTRANTS
Only Alabama registered mediators can attend this training session. This training session is designed for Alabama registered mediators who would like to receive the designation of “domestic violence trained.”
SCHEDULE
Day 1
- 8:00 – 8:30 AM: Registration & Light Breakfast
- 8:30 – 10:30 AM: Course Overview; Introduction; Review Mediation Generally and Significance of DV Issues (includes 1 hour of ethics)
- 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Domestic Violence, Generally
- 12:00 – 1:00 PM: Lunch and Catch-up
- 1:00 – 2:30 PM: Screening for Mediation Purposes
- 2:30 – 4:30 PM: Role Play 1 and Debrief; Recap Day 1
Day 2
- 8:00 – 8:30 AM: Registration & Light Breakfast
- 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Mediation with Domestic Violence Matters (includes 1 hour of ethics)
- 12:00 – 1:00 PM: Lunch and Catch-up
- 1:00 – 2:30 PM: Role Play 2 and Debrief
- 2:30 – 4:30 PM: In-class demonstrations and role plays with Role Play 1 and 2 with alternative scenarios presented; Recap Total Course; Evaluations

This training session will be held at the Bryant Conference Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Cooper Shattuck, Instructor
- Registered mediator since 1998
- Taught as an adjunct at the University of Alabama School of Law for over 14 years, including Alternative Dispute Resolution and Negotiations
- Completed Harvard Program on Negotiation Executive Training Program
- Has served on Alabama Supreme Court Commission on Dispute Resolution for 8 years
- Has extensive negotiation and mediation experience
- 30 years of practice experience in state and federal courts handling many complex litigation matters
- Frequent CLE speaker
- Co-founder of Cartography Consulting, providing marketing solutions and consulting services to lawyers and law firms
Scott Donaldson, Instructor
- Extensive experience in mediation of domestic relations cases
- 18 years of domestic relations legal practice experience
- 8 years as a judge on the Court of Civil Appeals (Domestic Relations Appellate Court)
- 10 years experience as Circuit Judge
- Taught at numerous Alabama circuit/district and probate judge conferences and new judge orientation sessions
- Taught 15 week-long courses for the National Judicial College and for 11 state judicial associations
- 31st-semester teaching as adjunct faculty at UA Law School
Susan Donovan, Instructor
- Extensive clinical teaching experience in the University of Alabama School of Law's Mediation Law Clinic and Domestic Violence Law Clinic
- Extensive doctrinal teaching experience in Alternate Dispute Resolution, Advanced Family Law, Family Law, Juvenile Justice and Legal Profession
- 22 years of private practice experience
- Supervised and/or led over 800 family law mediations
- Currently, Director of Mediation Law Clinic at the University of Alabama School of Law
